Lifeguard Training
Red Cross Certified Lifeguard Training & CPR Certification
Prerequisites
- Minimum age of 15.
- Swim 300 yards continuously.
- Start in the water, swim 20 yards using the front crawl or breast stroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 lb. object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the point with the object and exit the pool without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute and 40 seconds.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the value of behaving in a professional manner.
- Learn how to identify behaviors of a swimmer, distressed swimmer and an active or passive drowning victim.
- Understand the components of an emergency action plan and how to activate it.
- Understand the general procedures for an emergency in the water or on land.
- Demonstrate how to perform equipment-based rescues.
- Learn how to provide first aid and how to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies.
- Learn how to recognize and care for possible head, neck or back injuries.
Length of Course
- 31 Hours and 15 minutes for full lifeguard training. (Including the pre-course session)
- 18 Hours for lifeguard re-certification.
Sign-Up
- Child must pre-register, (Members and Non-Members) one week in advance, in order to organize times, instructors and class sizes.
- Complete registration form on website.
- Must pay in full by cash or check on first day of classes.

Class Structure and Frequency
Lifeguard Certification
June 5 & June 6 (2 Days ) From 9a.m. – 6p.m.
June 12 & June 13 (2 Days ) From 9a.m. – 6p.m.
CPR/AED Certification
June 8 From 8p.m. – 10p.m.
Lifeguard Challenge (Re-certification)
June 10 From 8p.m. – 11p.m.
Fee’s and Charges
- Lifeguard Certification & CPR/AED – $300
- CPR/AED Certification – $60
- Lifeguard Challenge (Re-Certification) – $160
- Payment by cash or check due in full on Monday.
Instructor
- A currently authorized American Red Cross Lifeguarding instructor who has met state qualifications where required.
Certification Requirements
- Attend all classes
- Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities.
- Demonstrate competency in the three final skill scenarios.
- Correctly answer at least 80 percent of the questions in the three sections of the final written exam.
Certificate Issued and Validity Period
- Lifeguard/First Aid: Valid for 3 years
- CPR / AED for Lifeguards: Valid for 1 Year
Red Cross Certification Cards will be issued to all who successfully complete the course.
